Moving…

Posted in Uncategorized tagged at 2:50 pm by thealligatorpurse

I’m moving to Blogger.  I don’t know if I’ll like it, and may come back, but there are a couple of things I really dislike about WordPress that I do like about Blogger.  I don’t like leaving my posts behind, here 😦  They’re special to me.  So, if you’re following me, move over here:

How to clean the bathroom

Posted in Uncategorized tagged , at 7:52 pm by thealligatorpurse

Well, I realized today that you can sign up for e-mails for the 30-day challenge, which I did…today…on “my” day4.  So, I’m starting over.  Instead of bore you with the details of the same days again, while I will do them, I’ll wait until I’m caught up with the e-mails to post about them.

Instead, I’ll tell you how I clean my bathroom!

I always keep these in a cabinet, handy, in the bathroom.

049

These are simple things.  A roll of paper towels and a spray bottle of vinegar/water mixture.  I also keep a toilet bowl scrubbing brush behind the toilet and a bottle of toilet cleaner in the cabinet.

With these handy, all I have to do is grab them and do a quick wipe-down to get rid of dust, toothpaste spills, hair, etc.

I start with the toilet.  I spray the top and dust it off, then I spray the seat area, wipe it down.  Clean inside the bowl.  Done.

Then, I move on to the sink.  Spray down the counter and sink, wipe it until it’s not grimy anymore, and…Done.

Then, the floor.  I spray it, wipe it, work my way out of the bathroom, and…Done.

044

Sometime, well, almost always, I get some help.

047

What about the shower, you ask?  Weeeelllll, it’s not usually as clean.  I attack it with scrubbing bubbles every couple of weeks, other than that, I wipe down the sides while I’m bathing the girls.  Yeah, I guess that’s not too bad, right?

Challenge Days 3&4

Posted in Uncategorized at 8:45 pm by thealligatorpurse

I’ve been concentrating on not saying anything mean to or about my husband.  This is something I’ve been working on for a while, anyway, but it’s still necessary to keep it in the front of my mind.  I did pretty good.   Once, today, I interrupted him in front of someone and embarrased him, it’s not easy to smooth that over.  Makes me feel awful.  But, he still loves me 🙂

Encourage your Pastor!

I don’t know how your families are, but mine is full of pastors.  My FIL, BIL, BIL, and husband are all full-time pastors.  And, trust me, they’re not being passed over by the economy.  Every single one of them has been touched, by pay cuts, by job loss, by job insecurity.  And I have to say, I’m not hearing them complain.  They’re still serving their congregations as lovingly and selflessly as ever.  They are true Biblical leaders.

Here are some ways you can encourage YOUR pastor.  Please, print it out and post it somewhere to remind you through the year of how to love them.  http://www.christianitytoday.com/tc/9r5/9r5035.html

To Father Larry, Chad, Sean and Troy, Thank you for all your servanthood and wisdom in leading those God has entrusted you with.  I appreciate you!

Day 2 of the challenge

Posted in 30-Day Husband Encouragement Challenge tagged at 8:13 pm by thealligatorpurse

“…through love serve one another.” Gal. 5:13b

Well, I think Troy served me more than I did him.  We went to the mall 🙂  Didn’t buy anything but Starbucks and some lunch, since we’re kinda, well, out of money for the next few months, but walked and window shopped.  I did make sure to thank him for the ways he served me…helping cook dinner, spending the day with us.

How are the rest of you doing?

30 Day Challenge

Posted in Uncategorized tagged at 1:01 pm by thealligatorpurse

I just read about this on another blog and think it’s a wonderful challenge.  It’s a 30-day Husband Encouragement Challenge for Wives.  http://www.reviveourhearts.com/topics/30-day-challenge.php?  I think it’s a wonderful way for me to remember to and practice making it a habit to honor my husband.

My husband amazes me with his wisdom, kindness, humbleness, compassion, strength and love.  I could list more of his wonderful attributes, but these are ones that have stood out to me lately.  I am so grateful that God picked him for me, or me for him, or us for each other.

Would anyone like to do this challenge with me?  I’m starting it today, but you can join any time!

Does God really care?

Posted in Uncategorized tagged , at 7:47 pm by thealligatorpurse

I’ve written this post a few times now, hopefully I can get it right this time.  Over the past few years, my husband and I have been going through probably the hardest things we have ever experienced.  We’ve felt despised, unwelcome and unloved.  I can’t explain how badly this hurts.  And, it seems like it will never end.

It’s not just happening to us.  It seems like Satan is attacking the churches of the world.  The churches, the Leaders/Pastors, the congregations.  We have dear friends who are losing their jobs as pastors and having to move from congregations they love, away from family, friends, school, all that’s familiar.

When I’m feeling especially hurt, I have to stop and wonder, “What great thing does God have on its way that Satan is so interested in us right now?”

And then, I start to wonder, “Or, has God just given up on watching us?  Is He just fed up with the world and the sin, tired of chastising His children?”

Mostly, I just get sad.  I want to be in a church that loves each other enough to hold ourselves accountable to the word of God.  Where the community sees and recognizes that love as so unique to anything they have experienced.  A church that puts the worlds needs ahead of its own.

And I end up having a pity party.  I have become so used to this that I think I can hide it well, put up a front for my children and those I come across during the day.  The only one I can’t fool, or so I think ;-), is Troy.

But, it seems just when I can’t feel any worse, as I’m sitting around wondering if God cares anymore, He goes out of his way to remind me that He does.

And, He doesn’t just show us in a small way.  Nope.  He piles on the blessings.  Things we could never imagine possible.  Just this past week, He took us from such a low point to such a high.  Troy and I talk through the day and he has 2-3 blessings each time we talk.  Dear people at church go out of their way to show us they love us and are grateful for us.  God answers prayers we’ve been praying for months – years.  He increases our joy beyond what we thought possible.

So, back to my title, “Does God really care?”  I challenge you to give Him a try.  Live by what the Bible says, not by what your friend says.  Don’t give in to the pressure to take the easy road, the popular road.  Take the true road.  We had a special speaker in our mother’s group today.  He spoke about children with learning disabilities.  Apparently, a few years ago, there was a study to see if special education classes worked for these children.  They compared the reading levels of those who went to the special ed class vs. those who remained in the regular class.  Those who stayed in the regular class had a reading level much higher than those who were removed.  His observation was that those in the special ed class were aided well and learned to read well, but those in the regular class were pushed to learn at the level with the other children.  Their  being pushed and almost forced to grow instead of having it easy seem to have put them ahead in the long run.  It makes me think of what God is doing to us, challenging us now, allowing the hurt, making us grow for something in the future.  Something we need to be stronger for, confident for, able to come up with the right answer through our years of training.

Matthew 10:29-31 (CEV)

29Aren’t two sparrows sold for only a penny? But your Father knows when any one of them falls to the ground. 30Even the hairs on your head are counted. 31So don’t be afraid! You are worth much more than many sparrows.

Check this out.  I love these gowns and really wanted one when I was pregnant with Averie, but couldn’t justify the $60 expense.  Well, here they are for only $30!  I spent a ton of time in a gown when I was delivering my girls, and this would have been really nice instead of the “one size fits all” hospital gown.  So, if you or someone you love are pregnant, think about splurging on this for yourself or gifting your loved one 🙂

But, get it now.  It’s a 1 day deal…

Pumpkin patch 2009

Posted in Family tagged , at 11:02 am by thealligatorpurse

We’ve made two trips to the pumpkin patch this fall.  The first one was with the cousins to pick out some mums and tiny pumpkins.  The girls enjoyed loading the wagon up with them…

Then, when Grandpa Lynn and Grandma Louie were here, we went again.

The girls took a ride in the barrel train.

Daddy tried to take Aves into the corn maze, but it was way too muddy.

We took a hayride into the pumpkin patch, but it was too muddy to get out of the wagon.

More about the Tutu

Posted in Crafts tagged , at 10:00 pm by thealligatorpurse

I wanted to make more tutus, one for each of my girls and one for my neice.  So, I looked back at my post on how to make one…and it was SO UNINFORMATIVE!  So, here’s better directions…

1.  Pick your color(s) of tulle, purchase it, and set it on the table.

004

2.  Roll it up lengthwise and cut sections from it.  First, I cut mine in half the whole way down the piece, since I was making tutus for shorties.  Then, I rolled the pieces up and cut about every 3 inches or so.

005

006

3.  Next, measure a ribbon around the waist of the tutu recipient.  Knot it at each end where it meets, and leave extra past the knots to tie a nice big bow.

007

4.  Tie said ribbon around something, I used the back of my highchair.  Grasp the tulle, fold it in half and pass it behind the ribbon.  Pass the loose ends through the loop and tighten.  Continue with each peice of tulle until you have as many on the ribbon as you want.

5.  Tie the tutu around the waist of the baby – cute!!!
